I'm getting really sick of a girl at work. She started in our department a month ago, after tranferring from the PR department during a flurry of company staff cuts. That in itself should have been a warning to us as they kept on the other PR girl who'd not been there as long...but I digress.

This girl, Annie, applied to our department and although I had my reservations - you know how you just get a bad vibe off some people? - I didn't expand on them as I didn't want my manager to think I wasn't wanting another girl on the team.

I should add at this point that I'm the team leader for this group and my main role is training and mentoring.

So anyway, her first few days I did exactly what I've done on past occasions with new or transferred staff, and gave her some reading material about the job and what we do, then covered each aspect of the job in detail, giving her time after each section to get some hands-on practice and stuff. It's a technique that worked for me, and every other person in the team.

I admit I was lenient on her because she was tying up loose ends from her previous role, and the transition is always difficult when you transfer, so I made allowances. And as a result, I've shot myself in the foot.

She's now turning round and complaining that I haven't trained her properly. Which is bullshit; I've told her everything she needs to know, in a language she can understand - she admits herself that she's not very bright - yet she just doesn't listen to me when I'm telling her things. She'll sit and argue with me about things I obviously know more about. Then she'll go off and do a task I set her, only to give up 10 minutes in because she's struggling. But instead of coming to me and saying 'Jay, I'm struggling with this, can you help me or go through it again?', she'll go and do her own thing.

She complains that she wants to learn the whole job role in one go, rather than the bite-size approach i've been doing so far. I've tried to explain to her that becasue of the immense amount of information involved, it's impossible for me to sit down and go through everything because

a - I haven't got time to devote an entire 3 full days to her as I have other duties and people to train as well - she thinks she's the be-all and end-all of the team.

b - If I were to tell her everything all in one go, she'd forget it all because she'd be overloaded.

She's driving me and the manager Chris absolutely bugshit with her attitude - which includes arguing and being cheeky to him as well as me. He told her yesterday to stop watching a video on the office PC and she said 'I'll watch what I want'. Not a good thing to say to your manager when you're on a probationary period in a job you're not doing great with in the first place...

That's the thing. She's been here one month already (but in the company itself for 2 years) and she's got one more month of probation before we have to make a decision to keep her on or activate her redundancy. The rest of the team have to work towards targets for their £2k a year bonus but hers is guaranteed because she wouldn't take a paycut when she transferred. I think this is why she's not making the effort - she probably assumes that we won't dare get rid of her. WRONG.

So, on monday, i'm going to present her with a list of every single little thing she'll need to know to do her job properly. There's over 100 items in all, and she said she wanted to learn it all in one go...we'll see.

Well, VR is the last place I thought I'd end up talking shop, but as it turns out, a friend is embarking on the same line of work as me, so we're giving each other tips. Tis fun :-D

It hit me yesterday while I was talking to a work colleague. People diss pro-wrestling as 'fake' because the moves are practised beforehand - yet Karate, Kickboxing, Tae-Kwondo...all those martial arts moves are also practiced before a sparring competition (match), yet you never hear of them being called fake. Practicioners of the martial arts are taught how to land and take impacts just like wrestlers are, so where is the difference, really? It's a case of double standards and it drives me bugshit.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - if you think wrestling is fake, come here and take one of my suplexes!

Why, oh WHY do children think it's amusing to throw things off a flyover towards passing cars?

Gav and I were coming back from shopping yesterday when we approached a flyover. I saw two kids up there and I just knew they were going to throw something. Sure enough, an object that looked like a huge half-eaten gobstopper was hurled towards the car, landing on the left-hand side of our windscreen.

Luckily, our windscreen didn't break but that's not the point. If we'd been driving a left-hand drive car it would've disctracted the driver, who would've swerved and, on a busy by[ass, could've caused a major accident.

We turned off the bypass at the next junction to try and find the little shits, but unfortunately they got away. We reported it to a copper who'd conveniently arrived just after the incident and therefore saw nothing, but you know they'll do sod all about it.

So, if there are any kids on this site who think this kind of thing is funny, it's not. It's dowwnright dangerous. The same goes for those kids who throw things form the sidewalk - although the speeds aren't as high the principle is the same. Just imagine how you'd feel if your parents were in a car crash and you found out it was because some stupid kid had thrown something at THEIR car.

THINK BEFORE YOU THROW

Even though it's a year away, I got my wedding 'bouquet' last friday. Not quite what people were expecting when I took it (discreetly) into work to show them...Needless to say, I'll be getting a separate one to throw!

And it's real too; just in case any guests misbehave themselves...

And if the threat of having their skulls crushed isn't enough, Gav has also gotten his battle-ready weaponry:

In case you hadn't already guessed, we're having a medieval-themed wedding :-D

Just bought Burning Crusade expansion pack at the weekend. Made Blood Elf warlock and Draenai paladin characters, and will be starting those off in the next couple days. But I really need to get my main character, my Night Elf hunter, up to level 20 so I can join the guild my partner and best friends are in. She's 17 at the moment, so it shouldn't take me too long.

I want to play now but I'll never get to work if I do...

I've admitted defeat. Tomorrow, I'm going to bite the bullet, take the plunge and do something I may, possibly, regret immesely afterwards...

...I'm going to get my hair cut.

It's been one length for a while now, and although I always wanted long, one-length black hair, the truth of the matter is, it's too fine to look good in this style. It's 'flat as a fart' as my mother would say, so I'm going to have it cut in a Kat Von D kinda style - short, choppy layers on top and layered down longer underneath. Not having the fringe though; can't quite bring myself to do that!

Hopefully my new style should give me a bit of volume. I mean yes, I'm a hairdresser and I do know how to get volume without having it cut short on top, but I just can't be arsed with all that faffing every morning just for an extra couple millimetres of body.

So. at half past 10 tomorrow I'll be shitting bricks in a salon chair. Been years since I trusted anyone to restyle my hair...Gav's been trimming the ends for the last couple years.

*gulp*
